The main purpose of this trip was to see the oddly sick Becca. The day I arrived she had the miraculous turning point where she finally beginning to feel better. Coincidence? We shall never know, but we are all glad she's been doing much better. Here she in in front of her rather calming diptych paintings of the Pacific.
We wandered aimlessly through the promenade of Santa Monica and came upon the sweetest sleepy bull dog.
Then it was time for me to leave so that she could rest some more and I was able to catch up with my dear Cindy. We went to Moca to catch the Louise Bourgeois retrospective. She's this fantastic 98 year old french artist who's been creating pieces since the 30's (and who is still active.) http://www.moca.org/museum/exhibitiondetail.php?id=412
That's the ever-so-shiny Disney hall behind her.
After that we headed back to the west side for some yummy Abbot's Pizza (made w/ bagel dough). This is our pre-hair cut shot.
There's a pretty neat salon on Abbot Kinney called Trim that will do a basic 1st haircut for $20...but beware, if you end up liking it alot, the next will start at $75. I'm embarrassed to say how long it had been since I got a professional cut done (I'll just say it's been years) but here's the after shot. Probably can't tell too much by the pictures, but all the dead ends were gone & my hair had a nice layered bounce to it. My only instructions to the stylist were to make it layered w/out it looking like a grown out mullet. If you'd like to try them out: http://www.venicetrim.com/
There's a lot of neat things about LA, but Venice is my absolute favorite place to be while visiting. Sometimes I miss living there. The freak flags still fly fairly high, even w/ the vast neighborhood changes. Cindy & I walked around checking out gardens and such and saw this rolled up garage door w/ a couple dozen spinners inside. It seemed kind of weird that there's a beautiful day w/ beach bike riding available outside, but they'd rather be on a stationary bike in stuffy garage. Aw well.
And a little bit of street art.
Walking on the beach, a school of dolphins was in full swing about 100 ft off the shore, playing and being too cute. They reminded me of when Jason & I first came down to Venice from SF to look for an apt. We took a break in the middle of the day to go to the beach and there were some dolphins swimming off the shore then too. I completely felt like I was home. Moving back to LA probably isn't in my future, but I still love to visit.
Jason worked part-time at the Rose Ave Groundwork for three years. There's now an overwhelming Whole Foods around the corner from it and they had a huge display of Groundwork's yummy coffee. This is usually my last stop when I head back to San Diego. Definitely some of the best coffee in all of California. And if I'm lucky, Doug is working and I can give him a hug hello/goodbye.
