Becca graced us in San Diego for a day. Following my brilliant navigation to go hiking at Torrey Pines State Reserve, we ended up at the Salk Institute: http://www.salk.edu/
The architecture is a mesh between concrete modernism and an ancient Egyptian style fountain.

There were several bees enjoying the architecture, too. One got swept into the fountain and as Becca pulled him to safety, he thanked her with a little prick to the hand. Her fingers ended up swelling almost twice normal size.
After a few more hit & misses, we finally found the entrance to the reserve. It's not that it's actually that hard to find, but I was convinced there was a back entrance...and I was wrong. The trails aren't long, but there's a lovely one that heads on down the cliffs to the beach. http://www.torreypine.org/
And Jason joined us to finish off a fantastic day while munching on the exceptionally yummy food at Arrivederci. I got the squid ink linquini and seafood right below...yum yum yum. http://ristorante-arrivederci.com/
Alas, Becca did have to go home to LA. To next time!
